The Lyona United Methodist Church was organized in 1859 by Rev. Charles Heidel as "The Junction City Mission." Heidel's son-in-law, Rev. Charles Stuekemann, was the first pastor. This was the first church organized in Dickinson County and was the oldest church in the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church before they combined with the Kansas East Conference and the Nebraska Conference.
